I've posted most of the details of the animation before. Those details relevant to a further development in relation to the animation which I don't think has been mentioned above - a decolourised version appeared in Greer's Sirius documentary, i.e. in black and white, with a caption suggesting the footage came from the US archives. I found that particular development rather amusing.
Here are the notes from the relevant part of my thread on Greer's Sirius documentary. (Those notes are a bit out of date, e.g. referred to the need to contact some people I've since contacted). Section D3: The Washington video
The Sirius documentary includes (at approximately 12 minutes 26 seconds) a video with the caption “Washington DC, USA : USAF Archives : July 12, 1952”.
That video appears to be a slightly altered version of a video that litters the Internet, with multiple copies appearing on the Internet – e.g. at the link below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTZ7O9cfpPQ
(The version used by Greer is in black and white. I don’t recall seeing a black and white version online. The multiple copies I’ve seen are in colour).
The earliest copy of the video that I’ve seen was during a discussion of the 1952 Washington National episode in Nick Cook's documentary "Secret Evidence", which was shown on British television on Channel 4 on 13th October 2005. The relevant Washington clip can be found approximately 34 minutes and 15 seconds into the documentary and again at 35 minutes and 38 seconds.

I assumed that the footage in Nick Cook’s documentary was a reconstruction of the relevant sighting. Other reconstructions from that documentary have been posted on Youtube as if they were real footage. For example, I’ve previously written about the the same thing happening a few years ago with the reconstruction in the same documentary of the Lonnie Zamora sighting.
The Lonnie Zamora's 1964 Socorro incident was one of the few sightings to get the full treatment in the documentary - a reconstruction, complete with actor ... and fairly impressive computer generated imagery (impressive at least by the usual standards of British documentaries). It's just a shame that the computer generated imagery had no resemblance whatsoever to the description given by Lonnie Zamora. The object zipping around the sky in the relevant reinactment was a classic disc-shaped UFO, which looked nothing like the numerous descriptions and sketches provided by Zamora. This is not a simply a minor gripe about an inaccuracy in the imagery used - Nick Cook proceeded to determine the probable identity of the object seen by Zamora on the basis of this (incorrect) shape.
Before I bother trying to contact Nick Cook himself, is any already in a position to confirm that the Washington footage was a reconstruction for the Nick Cook documentary (or, alternatively, identify any other source)?
Given the popularity of the video, I’d like to nail down the details when discussing that video in my item on Steven Greer’s Sirius documentary
I’ve further assumed that the relevant video was inspired by the popular still photograph of lights over the Capitol building, e.g. at the link below:
http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread923825/pg1...
As illustrated at that link, I’ve understood that that photograph showed lens flares.
Rod Dyke (someone that I keep meaning to make contact with) has posted the following references to articles by Coleman VonKeviczky (ICUFON) reporting Rod Dyke's findings that the photograph was a lens flare:
(1) OFFICIAL UFO July 1976 pp 12-15, 34-37; and
(2) FLYING SAUCERS (Palmer) #91 (1976) pp 14-37;
(3) CANADIAN UFO REPORT Vol 3, No 8 (#24), Summer 1976, pp 18-23.
Can anyone supply ONE (no need for both...) of the first two items??
(While the photo is pretty common on the Internet, and indeed the lens flare explanation is fairly well known, being able to point to a detailed analysis in publications 40 years ago may help to nail this one down).
Incidentally, V-J has previously helpfully posted that FOTOCAT lists the following published references for the photograph:
Flying Saucers (Ray Palmer), No 81, Summer 1973, cover; and Colman VonKeviczky, No 91, Spring 1976, pp 14-37; and Canadian UFO Report, Vol 2, No 8 (#16), 1973-1974, pp 11-16; and Vol 3, No 8 (#24), Summer 1976, pp 18-23. Here are two of the articles from my notes above, helpfully provided to me by Vicente-Juan Ballester-Olmos when I circulated those notes in July last year. I've also tried to contact Nick Cook by about 3 different routes, but not had any reply. http://we.tl/AO0SGY4W5F
